其焚尸也，必须请星者选择吉日。未至其日，停尸于家，有时停至六月之久。……其尤怪者，卜人有时谓不宜从门出丧，必须破墙而出。此地之一切偶像教徒焚尸之法皆如是也。

有丝甚饶，以织极美金锦及种种绸绢。是为一富足之州，由是一切谷粮皆贱。境内有野味甚多，且有虎。有富裕之大商贾包办其买卖商货之税额，君主获有收入甚巨。

（成吉思汗）进围一名哈剌图（calatuy）要塞时，膝上中流矢死。

某日有一妇人嘱彼缝制一靴。此妇腿足皆丽，出其足以量靴之尺寸。靴工心动，已而大悔。其人数闻福音书中之言，外眼有过，累及良心，应于犯过之前，立时将眼抉出头外。于是待此妇去后，取缝靴之锥刺其一眼。由是仅存一眼。

骑行二日，抵于大洋，海边有一城，名日忽鲁模思（Ormus）。城有港，商人以海舶运载香料、宝石、皮毛、丝绸、金锦与夫象牙暨其他货物数种，自印度来此，售于他商，转贩世界各地。此城商业极其繁盛，盖为国之都城。所属城村不少。国王名称鲁墨耽阿合马（ Ruomedam Ahomet）。阳光甚烈，天时酷热。2）城在陆上，外国商人殁于此者，国王尽取其资财。

此地用香料酿海枣酒，甚佳。初饮此酒者，必暴泄，然再饮之，则颇有益，使人体胖。其地之人性于有病时食肉与面包，无病食之则致疾。其习食之物，乃为海枣、成鱼、枸櫞、玉葱。其人欲保健康，所以用玉葱代肉。其船舶极劣，常见沉没，盖国无铁钉，用线缝系船舶所致。取“印度胡桃（椰子）树皮捣之成线，如同马，即以此线缝船，海水浸之不烂，然不能御风暴。船上有一桅、一帆、一舵，无甲板。装货时，则以皮革覆之，复以贩售印度之马置于革上。既无铁作钉，乃以木钉钉其船。用上述之线缝系船板，所以乘此船者危险堪虞，沉没之数甚多。盖在此印度海中，有时风暴极大也。

其人色黑，崇拜摩诃末。其地天时酷热，居民不居城中，而居城外园林。园林之间，水泉不少。虽然如是，若无下述之法，仍不能抵御此热：

夏季数有热风，自沙漠来至平原。其热度之大，不知防御者遭之必死。所以居民一觉热风之至，即入水中，仅露其首，俟风过再出。

每年11月播种小麦、大麦及其他诸麦，次年3月收获。除海枣延存至5月外，别无青色植物，盖因热大，植物俱干也。

船虽不坚，然有时不致破损者，盖有鱼油涂之。居民有死者，则持大服，盖悲泣亘四年也。在此期内，亲友邻人会聚，举行丧礼，大号大哭，至少每日一次。

此种船舶，太古之时已见有之。幹朵里克云：“此国所用之船，纯以绳线缝合,我曾登此种船舶，未见有铁一片。

涂船之油，乃鲸油。9世纪时之阿刺壁旅行家曾言波

斯湾之渔人取鲸脂熬油，合他物以涂船,填其空隙。

其船舶以椰子树制造,闻全以树材为之，以树干作船身，以树皮树叶作帆作绳，以椰子作载货。其最可注意者，船板皆用此种绳子缝合，涂以石灰,缘其地无松脂，亦无铁，所以其船不能抵抗海险。(沙儿丹说）
